A memorial service to honor the life of James Herbert Peloff Jr., 74, New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, in the small chapel of Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church, 311 Browns Lane, St. Matthews. He died Dec. 26, 2013.
He was born in Denver on Dec. 17, 1939, to the late James Herbert and Nell Louise Franz Peloff. An alumnus of Eastern High School, he also graduated from the University of Kentucky, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, and the University of Louisville, where he completed his MBA. He was a vice president and trust officer at Liberty National Bank in Louisville, where he worked from 1962 until his retirement. In retirement, he enrolled in U.S. history classes at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, building on his knowledge and interest in the American Civil War era. He volunteered in the photo archives for the Forest History Society in Durham, NC. Later in New Albany, he volunteered to organize weekly “bull sessions” with the men living at Providence Retirement Community, developing many deep friendships. He was a long-standing member of Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church in Louisville. He will be remembered with much love by his friends and family for his kindness, his fun sense of humor, and his tendency to always carry a book with him everywhere he went.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rebecca Caufield Peloff; his two daughters, Beth Ann and Amy Rebecca Peloff; and his brother, Richard J. Peloff (Jane).
There will be a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany.
