Daniel Thomas Waterfill

79; of Charlestown

Funeral services for Daniel Thomas Waterfill, 79, of Charlestown, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Bethlehem Community Church, with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery. He died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at St. Catherine Regional Hospital.

He was born May 28, 1933, in Louisville, to David Leslie Waterfill and Alloise Thomas Waterfill. He lettered in baseball and earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Indianapolis and completed his Masters and 30 plus hours from Ball State University. He was an educator at heart, having coached and taught at Mooreland High School, coached and was the principal at Union High School, assistant principal and athletic director at Greensburg High School, assistant principal and principal at Madison High School from 1968 thru 1974 and was the assistant superintendent for Greater Clark County Schools until his retirement in 1996.

He was involved in various community activities such as the recently completed Autumn on the River in Bethlehem. Other activities included restoration of the old Bethlehem school house, past president of Historic Bethlehem, past president of the New Washington High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, president of the Bethlehem Cemetery Association and former member of the Charlestown Lions Club. He was also a member of the N.E.A., I.S.T.A. and the First United Methodist Church in Charlestown.

Dan was an advocate for education and enjoyed speaking with young people about education and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed attending many local athletic events and the Indianapolis Colts games and farming.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ann Berry Waterfill; sons, Mark Richard Waterfill and his wife, Melissa, of Plainfield, and Daniel Timothy Waterfill, of Indianapolis; sister, Linda Graser, of Shepherdsville, Ky.; grandchildren, Nick, Luke, Nate and Abbi Waterfill; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Berry Waterfill;  and a brother, Allen Waterfill.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Grayson Funeral Home, New Washington and after 10 a.m. Thursday, at the church.
