Virgil A. Peay II

68; of Floyds Knobs


— Funeral services for Virgil A. Peay II, 68, of Floyds Knobs, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, Floyds Knobs, with interment in the church cemetery. He died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.

He  was born Aug. 22, 1944 in North Dakota to the late Virgil A. and Lorine Maskie Peay. He was a graduate of the old Flaget High School in Louisville, and retired after some 42 years as a heavy equipment operator (bulldozer) with the William B. Engle Company and a member of Operators Union Local 181.  He was a member of American Legion Post 42, Floyds Knobs Community Club, Floyds Knobs Conservation Club, and a longtime member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. He never met a stranger and loved his wife of 42 years, Sharon, and his two sons and family. He will be greatly missed by all who ever met him, especially his family and friends.      

Survivors include his wife of  42 years, Sharon Aemmer Peay; sons, Virgil A. Peay III and wife, Dawn, and Bradley A. Peay; two sister-in-laws, Janet Davis and husband, Scott, and Sandy Aemmer Whalen and husband, Tom; one brother-in-law, Fred Aemmer and wife, Julie; five nephews; seven nieces; three uncles, Jon and Loretta Aalsma ,of Texas, John and Joan Maskie, of Colorado, and John Peay; and one aunt, Mary Peay.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and after 9 a.m. Friday, at  Kraft Funeral Service,  Spring Street Chapel, New Albany.
