Carolyn J. Babbs, 80; of Sellersburg

Funeral services for Carolyn J. Babbs, 80, of Sellersburg, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 29, at the Charlestown Road Chapel of Kraft Funeral Home Service, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. She returned home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services with her family by her side.

She was born Nov. 8, 1932 in Louisville, to her late parents, William and Sallie Hatfield. She loved books, studied ancient history, enjoyed the theater, watching old movies and listening to classical music. But her real joy came from being a mother and grandmother. Kind and compasionate with a generous heart, she was a friend, mother and grandmother to not just her family but to all in need. 

Survivors include her sons, Melvin A. Babbs and his wife, Jeanette, Marcus Babbs and his wife, Deanna, and Sean Babbs and his wife, Tarah; daughters, Denise Ruffra and her husband, David, Ramona Babbs and Jamie Ziegler and her husband, Jack; a sister, Ethel Scrogham; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin B. Babbs; grandson, Ross D. Ruffra; and a brother, Bill Hatfield.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday.
