Ruth Annette Seabrook

96; New Albany

A funeral service celebrating the life of Ruth Annette Seabrook, 96, New Albany, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Culbertson Baptist Church, New Albany, with burial to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. She died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Lincoln Hills Healthcare Center.

She was the former Ruth A. Rutherford, born on Dec. 7, 1916, in Claysville, Ind., and graduated from Campbellsburg (IN) High School in1934. In 1936 she graduated from the New Albany Business College and took post-graduate work at Central Business College in Indianapolis. She also earned credits from Indiana University.

Ruth was employed as a clerk-typist in the Procurement Divisions of the War Department from 1942-1946. At that time she transferred to the Treasury Department, Bureau of Internal Revenue, working as a clerk-typist until 1953. After her retirement from the Internal Revenue, she worked closely with her husband Paul at the Seabrook Funeral Home, now Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, where she served as bookkeeper until 2012. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, New Albany Chapter #340. Ruth was a former member of the Lost River Baptist Church in Claysville, and in 1977 moved her membership to the Culbertson Baptist Church where she lived true to her God, faithful to her family, and kind and cheerful to her friends and neighbors.

Survivors include her step-daughter, Marilyn Pinaire, Evanston, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Floris Seabrook, New Albany; four grandchildren, Mark Seabrook and Karen Bunch, both of New Albany, Susan Pinaire Breece, Evanston, Ill., and Stephen Pinaire, Wilmette, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews and their families including Martha Rutherford, Paoli, who cared for her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Seabrook, whom she married on Oct. 24,1953; stepson, Donald C. Seabrook; her parents, Edwin R. and Fern V. (Wible) Rutherford; her sisters, Elizabeth F. Hackney, Edith R.Newlin and Imogene K. Chastain; and her brother, John W.Rutherford.

Visitation will be from 12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, New Albany, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorial Contributions may go to Culbertson Baptist Church.
