69; Madison, formerly of New Albany

— Funeral services for Jimmy D. Buchanan, 69, Madison, formerly of New Albany,  will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Morgan & Nay Funeral Center, Madison, with interment in Bayless Cemetery, Madison. He died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital, Madison.

He was born April 19, 1944, in Crab Orchard, Ky., to Joe and Gertie Greer Buchanan. He was raised in Kentucky and had resided in the New Albany community for nearly 40 years. He was united in marriage on Aug. 10, 2005 in Floyd County to Mary C. Emmons. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed attending the New Albany VFW. He enjoyed his career as a meat cutter, having worked with Thiftway in Jeffersonville for 40 years. He also had worked the past four years with Meijer as a meat cutter and had worked as owner and operator of Buchanan Carpet Cleaning for six years. Jimmy had resided the past year in Madison.

Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Emmons Buchanan; a son, Jeff Buchanan and his wife, Tammy, New Albany; a daughter, Diana Buchanan, Louisville;  grandchildren, Kendall and Taylor; his mother-in-law, Josephine Emmons, Madison;  five stepsons, Jason Thompson, New Albany, Jesse Thompson, Madison, Jeremy Yocum, Palmyra, Michael Yocum, Palmyra, and Tony Emmons, New Albany; his sister, Betty Ross, Salem; his brother, Joey Buchanan, Columbus; five step grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Gertie Greer Buchanan.
