A funeral service with military honors for Norman L. Veron, 93, New Albany, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany, with private burial to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.
He was born June 19, 1920, in New Albany, to his late parents, Walter and Mary Veron. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a P.O.W. for 27 months. He retired from Indiana Bell. Norman was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1693, Bonnie Sloan American Legion Post 28, Telephone Pioneers of America, American Ex-P.O.W. and St. Mark’s United Church of Christ.
Survivors include sisters Emma Lou Timmons and Dorothy Mae Galloway; an adopted daughter, Teresa Sponcil; grandchildren, John Sponcil and his wife, Andrea, and Jenny Macklin; and great-grandchildren, John Taylor Macklin, Ian Speed Sponcil and Fox Norman Sponcil.
He was preceded in death by his son, Murray Lee Veron, who perished in service of our country in South Vietnam in 1968; his wife, Norma Veron; and brothers, Maurice, Walter and Irvin Veron.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
