Ira ā€œDā€ Massey, 92; New Albany


— Funeral services for Ira “D” Massey, 92, New Albany, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany, with full military honors. Private burial will be in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Tuesday Aug. 13, 2013, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.

He was born March 28, 1921 in Henderson, Ky. to the late Gorden and Eliza Downs Massey. He retired in 1981 after 40 years of sales and service for General Motors with the old Liddie and Cooke Pontiac and Cadillac Motor companies. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a recipient of three Bronze Stars and Purple Heart serving on D-Day at Omaha Beach and in Normandy and France. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany where he was the school bus driver for several years.  

Survivors include five children, Rosita Fleischman, Edward Massey and wife, Dinah, Larry Massey and wife, Ann, Jane Smith and husband, Art, and Karen Bishop and husband, Steve; 10 grandchildren, Bryan, Justin, Sagan, Rick, Tim, Maryl, Meredith, Ryan, Andrea and Brent; and one great-grandchild, Zachary.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Massey in 2003.
