Thomas L. Cairns, 90, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Autumn Woods Health Campus in New Albany.
He was born Oct. 30, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., and raised in Collinsville, Ill. He was a retired consulting engineer, a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, NY, and a graduate of the University of Illinois. Cairns was an Army veteran of World War II and a Merchant Marine.
Survivors include his wife Betty; sons Richard and wife Susan, James and wife Barrie and Robert; grandson Jameson Cairns and family friend Ray Lawless.
He was preceded in death by his son Edward, his parents L.C. and Marie Cairns and his sisters Mary Jean and Virginia.
Cremation was chosen. Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, Market Street Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation or funeral at this time. A celebration of life is planned for the spring.
