Thomas D. McCartin

76; Starlight

— A funeral Mass for Thomas D. McCartin, 76, Starlight, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Floyds Knobs, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. He died peacefully Friday, March 28, 2014, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services after a brave year-long battle with cancer.

 He received excellent and compassionate care from Dr. Michael Kommor and the entire CBC group at Baptist East. He was born July 10, 1937, in Sellersburg, to the late Fred and Lorena (Glanville) McCartin. He was a member of Our Lady of Providence High School’s founding class of 1955. He completed his associate degree at IU Southeast and obtained his real estate license. He worked as owner and president of Tri-Mac Business Forms up until his death. He was a 42-year member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and founded its Independence Day parade. He devoted his entire life to his family and faith. He was an avid golfer and euchre player amongst friends. He was a lifetime member of Cardinal Ritter Council 1221 Knights of Columbus, having earned his 4th Degree, serving as faithful navigator, and helped to found the St. John’s Council, serving as grand knight. He served his country as a U.S. Marine, and was a member of the Marine Corps League and the Floyds Knobs American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rose Marie “Rosie” (Grantz) McCartin; daughter, Stacy (Chad) McCauley; grandsons, William Thomas McCauley and Samuel James McCauley; brothers,  David (Brenda) McCartin and Ronnie (Pam) McCartin; sister,

Bonnie (Jerry) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Fred McCartin, James McCartin and Don McCartin; and his sister, Shirley Mull. 

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel.
