Funeral services for Shirley W. Middleton Sr., Charlestown, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at the Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, with burial to follow in Charlestown Cemetery. He died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at University of Louisville Hospital.
Shirley was born in Evarts, Ky., the son of the late Walter and Ethel Wynn Middleton. He was a retired crane engineer with American Barge Line. A sergeant of arms and member of the Local 89 Teamsters Union, the inventor of the Gutter Cleaner and many other products.
Survivors include his wife Maureen Carol Huth Middleton; four children, J.R. Middleton (Monica), Annette Middleton-Nugent, Rachel Smith (Tracy) and Lisa Colwell (Billy); brothers, Alonzo, Tom and Billy Middleton; sisters, Doris Sindelar and Freda LaMaster; nine grandchildren, Wes and Daniel Harper, Brad and Levi Smith, Blu Colwell, Cheyenne Schurr, Shilo Colwell, Megan and Paige Middleton; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, James, Parnell, Azylee, Hislip, Beatrice Middleton and Louise Stanley.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
