Edward J. Kirchgessner, 81; Starlight

— Funeral Mass for Edward J. Kirchgessner, 81, Starlight, will be at noon Friday, Sept. 27, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Starlight, with burial in the church cemetery. He died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013.

 He retired after 38 years with Essroc Cement Company in Sellersburg and was a long-time farmer. A lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, he leaves a legacy of hard work, generosity, and loyalty to the community. An avid basketball fan, he devoted attention to all his family’s sporting events. Always quick to smile and see the good in others, he was lovingly dedicated to his family and his faith. He was born in Floyds Knobs,  on Nov. 17, 1931 to the late Emil Sr., and Irene (Missi) Kirchgessner.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary V. Schickel; daughters, Betty Vick, Theresa Williams and her husband, Richard, Rita Beam and her husband, Jim, and Rosie Torres and her husband, Tony; sons, Steve Kirchgessner and his wife, Ramona, Mike Kirchgessner and his wife, Joy, Bill Kirchgessner and his wife, Michelle, Tim Kirchgessner and his wife, Debbie, Jerry Kirchgessner and his wife, Michelle, and David Kirchgessner and his wife, Kelly; brothers, Emil Kirchgessner Jr. and his wife, Mary Rita, and Albert Kirchgessner and his wife Betty; sisters, Marcella Graf and her husband, Ted, Mildred Fessel, and Martha Rhodes and her husband, Everett; 26 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.  

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Ann Kirchgessner, and brother, Clifford Kirchgessner.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8:30  to 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany.
