Betty Jean Pangburn Shanahan, 82; Jeffersonville

— Graveside service for Betty Jean Pangburn Shanahan, 82, Jeffersonville, will be at noon, Friday, Oct. 18, at Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville. She died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Hillcrest Village, Jeffersonville.

She was born Nov. 23, 1930 in Jeffersonville to the late Thomas and Hazel Sparks Pangburn. She was the mother to seven children, a waitress at the Colonial Inn, River City Café, and Harbor House. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 35 and VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1832. She loved bowling, playing bingo and cards and going out to eat with her family. She was married to the late Sgt. David Shanahan Sr. living in Germany, France, and several states.

Survivors include her children, Lt. Col. David Shanahan Jr. (Retired USAF) and his wife, Diane, Euless, Texas, Donna Roubicek and husband, Peter, Atlanta, Ga., Col. Michael Shanahan (Retired USAF) and wife, Gisela, Monument, Colo., Susan Cable and husband, Clark, Jeffersonville, Jackie Ferch and husband, Patrick, Jeffersonville, Pam Stewart and husband, Jim, Elizabeth, and Tom Shanahan, Jeffersonville; grandchildren, Chris and Matt Shanahan, Michael Shepard (Army 1st Lieutenant), Sean Shanahan (deployed to Afghanistan), Kyle Shanahan, Christina Sonner, Catherine and Jason Cable, Melissa McGehee, Sheena Navarro, Capt. James Stewart (Army Active Duty), Sgt. Justin Stewart (Army Reserve), Sarah Stewart, and Joshua Shanahan; great-grandchildren, Sierra, Stephen (USMC Active Duty), Sterling, Spencer, Ellie, Jack, Savanna, Trisha, Wesley, Austin, Kevin, Kaylee, and Jaxson; sisters, Joyce Haworth and Donna Grose; and brother, Bill Pangburn, all of Jeffersonville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Shanahan Sr.; granddaughter, Ashley Shanahan; brothers, Chester, Tom and Kenneth Pangburn; and her sister, Barbara Pangburn.

Rev. Jennifer Mills-Knutsen of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ will officiate the graveside service. E.M. Coots’ Sons Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, the staff at Hillcrest Village and the staff and friends at Windsor Ridge.
