Ione Jeanette Stucker Howard, 83; Jeffersonville

— Funeral services for Ione Jeanette Stucker Howard, of Jeffersonville, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the Morgan and Nay Funeral Centre in Madison with burial to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Saluda, Ind. She died Friday, June 20, 2014, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville.

Ione is survived by her six daughters, Darlene Ashcraft and her husband, Ronnie of Madison, Laurel Sheets and her husband, Chris of New Albany, Sue Blair and her husband, Hank of Letcher, Ky., Loretta Wynn of Hanover, Sabrina Stewart of Clarksville, Barbara Howard of Jeffersonville; two sons, Victor Young and his wife, Pauline of Madison, Shane O’Brien of Los Angeles; two sisters, Virginia Stucker Heitz of Madison, Phyllis Carter of Madison; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, nine great great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isom Lee and Olda Mae Jenkins Stucker; her sons, Tony Earl Young Sr. and Terry Howard; her brothers, Thomas “Jabo,” Ray, Bart and Floyd Stucker; her sisters, Donna Hayes, Ivy Stephanus and Mary Hineman.

Ione entered this life on Jan. 25, 1931, in Saluda, Ind. She was the loving daughter of the late, Isom Lee and Olda Mae Jenkins Stucker. She was raised in Saluda and attended school there. Ione was united in marriage in 1946 to Herbert Young and this union was blessed with two sons and four daughters. Ione served as a private duty nurse for King’s Daughters’ Hospital for ten years. She worked as a housekeeper for Historic Madison, Inc. for several years. She had also worked at the Fiesta Restaurant and Ann’s Truck Stop in Madison. She had worked as a veterinarian assistant for Dr. Jones. Ione was united in marriage in 1961 to Russell Howard and this union was blessed with one son and two daughters. Ione worked at the Madison Salvation Army and served as the Kitchen Coordinator, Bell Ringer and Sunday School Teacher. She also enjoyed delivering food and clothing to the unloved, unwanted souls. She had resided in Floyd and Clark Counties for the past 25 years. Ione was a member of the Salvation Army, Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion Auxiliary and the First Southern Baptist Church in Clarksville, Indiana. She enjoyed flowers arranging, collecting, antiques and living life to the fullest. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from noon until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family requests memorials in memory of Ione to the Center For Lay Ministers, 213 E. Maple St., Jeffersonville, contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
