Robert ‘Bob’ J. Burns Sr., 77; Prospect, Ky.

— Funeral services for Robert “Bob” J. Burns Sr., 77, Prospect, Ky., will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at E.M. Coots’ Sons Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, with cremation to follow. He died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Kindred Hospital.

He was born July 28, 1936 in Jeffersonville. He worked most of his life in the tire business starting with Dean’s Tire Service in 1955 and Dean Wholesale Tire in the early 1960’s. He moved from changing tires to their warehouse operations and then into Sales and Marketing. When the Dean Brand was introduced he was named Sales Manager. After several promotions he was named president in 1977. He remained president until his retirement in 1998 when Cooper Tire acquired the Dean brand. Robert loved boating and was a familiar figure on the Ohio River for many years in a series of boats all named “Stinger”. He was a member of the Clark Masonic of Blue Lodge 40, Scottish Rite, and Shrine Club.   

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy J. Hershey, Prospect, Ky.; his sons, David L. Burns and his wife, Teresa, Lawrenceburg, Ky., Robert J. Burns Jr., Jeffersonville, and Mark A. Burns and his wife, Dee, Crestwood, Ky.; his brother, Danny G. Burns and his wife, Marie, Jeffersonville; his sisters, Janet M. Casey and her husband, Bobby, Jeffersonville, Barbara C. Combs and her husband, Joe, Jeffersonville, and Linda L. Gould and her husband, J.R., Jeffersonville; her grandchildren, Bryan A. Burns, James Burns, and Kathleen Burns; her great-grandchild, Raven A. Burns; and several nieces and nephews.   

He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony J. Burns and mother, Marie Burns (Collier); his brother, Tommy A. Burns who is survived by his wife, Vickie.     

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
