Katherine Karlen Huddle

92; Jeffersonville

A funeral Mass for Katherine Karlen Huddle, 92, Jeffersonville, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Jeffersonville, with interment in Mary Queen of Heaven Cemetery. She died Sunday, Jan. 19, after a series of lengthy illnesses.

She was born on April 6, 1921, to the late Joseph and Catherine Schneider Karlen in Louisville. She moved to Jeffersonville after her marriage in 1940 and was a parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She retired as a buyer from the former Bacon’s Department Store in 1986 after more than 30 years of service. In retirement, she enjoyed creating and selling crafts, collecting stamps, traveling in her RV, and operating a flea market business. Her volunteer work included serving as a Eucharistic minister and helping operate the Little Angel Shop charity store. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan O’Neal, Jeffersonville; son-in-law, Garry Jack Nokes, Clarksville; grandchildren, Deborah Nokes Hannon and Garry J. Nokes and his wife, Joanne, both of Jeffersonville; great-grandchildren, Jacob Hannon and his wife, Sarah, New Albany, Samuel Hannon in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Mary, Matthew, Monica, and Mark Nokes; one great-great-grandchild, Jackson Hannon; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Viola Ehrsam, Marie Pack, and Lucille Logan; brothers, Eugene and Sylvester; first husband, Arthur O’Neal; second husband, John Huddle; and daughter, Peggy O’Neal Nokes.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Hospital in Sellersburg for their special care and attention to Katherine and her family in the last months of her life.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home, Jeffersonville.
