Graveside services for Richard Bernard Smith, 83, Sellersburg, will be at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel. He went to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at his home.
He was born Jan. 17, 1931 in St. Louis, the son of Bernard and Florence Smith. He served in the United States Marine Corp for nine years including during the Korean War. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, with a bachelor’s degree in science in economics. He was a salesman for USG Interiors for 37 years, and his passion was his family.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Smith; his children, Cathy Denise and her husband, Robert, Canyon Country, Calif., Michael Smith and his wife, Esther, Dallas, Cindy Hudson and her husband, Sam, Lawrenceville, GA., and Christy Smith, Sellersburg; grandchildren, Sara and Garrett Denise, Ryan Smith, Mark, Michael and Jonathan Hudson; and brothers, James Smith, Sacramento, Calif., and David Smith, Seattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Smith.
Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, is charge of arrangements.
