William Henry Roberts

95; Borden

Funeral services for William Henry Roberts, 95, Borden, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Charlestown Road Church of Christ, New Albany, with burial and military honors at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died, passing from this life into the arms of his Lord, on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.  He was known as “Wild Bill,” but was a gentle and peaceable man always serving God and preaching to his family members to the end. He was a Navy veteran that proudly served his country during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ in New Albany and served as an elder for several years at Silver Street. He was born Oct. 19, 1918 in New Albany, to the late John David and Lilly Mae Spencer Roberts.

He is survived by his wife of more than 73 years, Wanita Conway Roberts; children, Patricia Hoke and her husband, Paul, Lonnie Roberts, Yvonne Koransky and her husband, Ralph, and Wendy Roberts (Cynthia); grandchildren, Jason Hoke and his wife, Melanie, Jeffrey Hoke and his wife, Kim, Jerold Hoke and his wife, Kim, Rachel Matson and her husband, Jason, and Rebecca Koransky; great-grandchildren, Jessica Shirley and her husband, Mike, Taylor, Michaela, Haleigh, Brayden, Audrey, James, Hunter Hoke, and Jason David Matson; great-great-grandchildren, Mikey and Jasmine Shirley; and numerous good family friends. 

 In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, Larry D. Roberts; and siblings, Evelyn Allen, Robert Johnson and Freda Lenz. 

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany and after 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the church.

The family wishes to extend a kind thanks to Alexis Chatburn, nurses Meagan, Jen, and April for their love of care for Bill over the past several weeks.
