Funeral services for Richard Lee “Dickie” Gedling, 64, Clarksville, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Newcomer Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville. He died Nov. 21, 2013.
Dickie was born on June 19, 1949, in Clark County, to the late Edward David and Dorothy Ardith (Dooley) Gedling. He served as a medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War earning the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. Dickie was retired as a sergeant for the Clarksville Fire Department, where he worked for more than 20 years. Even after his retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the firehouse with all the guys. Dickie was a family man and loved to spend time watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a member of the Harvest Chapel, Church of the Nazarene, Jeffersonville.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen (Haller) Gedling; children, Tina Martin (Wes) and Richard Gedling (Vickie); stepchildren, Julie Elrod (Daniel) and John Early (Danielle); brother, Edward Gedling; sister, Dorothy Payne (William); 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Dickie was preceded in death by his sister, Delores “Dody” Gedling; and an infant great-grandson, Sebastian Martin.
Visitation will be from 12 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the fineral home.
