Funeral services for Betty Janrose “Jan” Roy, 81, of Jeffersonville, will be at noon, Thursday, Jan. 10, at Walnut Street Baptist Church, Louisville, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville. She died, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013.
She was born in Somerset, Ky., and was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of Walnut Street Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Joy Class and was involved with many overseas mission trips to Brazil. Jan and her late husband, Sam Roy, founded the Sam & Jan Roy Endowment Fund at Walnut Street Baptist Church which promotes mission trips for both youth and adults.
Survivors include her two children, Robert David Roy and his wife, Vicki Conlin, of Jeffersonville, and Cathi Roy Sanders and her husband, Mike, of Louisville; a sister, Madge Goff and her husband, Charles, of Somerset, Ky.; a brother, Jim Phelps and his wife, Priscilla, of Wilhoit, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, George “G.B.” Deaton, of Somerset, Ky.; and one granddaughter, Allyson Sanders, of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Curtis Roy; a sister, Costella Deaton; and her parents, Sterley and Zella Woodall Phelps.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Scott Funeral Home’s North Chapel, Jeffersonville, and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, at the church.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Sam & Jan Roy Endowment Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.
