James T. ‘J.T.’ Higdon, 75; Henryville

A Mass of Christian burial for James T. “J.T.” Higdon, 75, Henryville, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Henryville, officiated by Fathers John Hall and Steve Schaftein, with burial to follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery with military graveside honors. He died at 11:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Clark Memorial Hospital, Jeffersonville. 

J.T. was a 1956 Henryville High School graduate and then enlisted in the U.S. Army, being honorably discharged June 30, 1967. He married Charlotte (Robinson) Higdon on Oct. 14, 1961, who survives in Henryville. J.T. was employed as head of maintenance at General Electric for 29 years, retiring in 1994. He worked over 29 years with the Henryville Little League and was a ring man at John McDonald Auctions. 

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, American Legion Post #105 in Henryville, and Henryville Civic Club. He served as a Monroe Township fireman, the Greater Clark County Schools board for 12 years and as a Democratic Party precinct committee member. He enjoyed western movies, farming on his tractor in his massive vegetable gardens and being on of Santa’s favorite helpers in Henryville. 

J.T. was the last constable of Monroe Township. The most important thing to J.T. were his grandchildren, whom he loved and cherished deeply. 

Survivors include his four children and their spouses, Marvin Curtis Higdon and his wife, Karen, Decatur, Ala., Victoria Ann Horine and her husband, Richard, Memphis, Ind., Thomas Bryon Higdon and his wife, Angela, Henryville, and Trace Jenee’ D’Angelo and her husband, Phil, Henryville; 10 grandchildren, Angela Christina Gledhill and her husband, Nathan, Marysville, Ohio, Grant Alan Higdon, Decatur, Ala., Grace Elizabeth Higdon, Decatur, Ala., Clinton Wendall Horine, Memphis, Emily Marie Horine, Memphis, Gage Alexander Higdon, Henryville, Clayton James Higdon, Henryville, Owen Edward Higdon, Henryville, Owen Edward Higdon, Henryville, Kaitlyn Alexis D’Angelo, Henryville, and Kelsey Mae D’Angelo, Henryville; two great-grandchildren, Haydon Thomas Gledhill and Jackson Alan Gledhill, both of Marysville, Ohio; six siblings, Phil Higdon and his wife, Jackie, of Decatur, Ala., Bonnie (John Purlee) Burr, Henryville, Wendell Higdon, Salem, Martha Thomas and her husband, Raymond, Henryville, Judy Reed and her husband, Dennis, Louisville, and Joan Harvey and her husband, Rick, Henryville.
