Dorothy Lee Wells Wathen

96; New Albany

Funeral Mass for Dorothy Lee Wells Wathen, 96, New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany,  with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. She died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at her home.

The daughter of the late William Joseph and Carrie Louise Moeller Wells, she was born July 27, 1917 in Louisville. She was a homemaker and long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She volunteered at St. Mary’s School for 18 years. She was a loving mother and prayed daily for everyone she knew.

Survivors include her children, Wanda L. Vance (Ramon Thompson), James W. Wathen III and his wife, Jan, Ronald L. Wathen Sr. and his wife, Linda, and Juanita M. Blessitt; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James William Wathen Jr., brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mag Wells, and granddaughter, Jessica Blessitt. 

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday, at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany.
