Sterling ‘Bud’ Detenber, 86; Jeffersonville

— A funeral Mass for Sterling “Bud” Detenber, 86, Jeffersonville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Jeffersonville, with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville. He died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at his home.

 He was born Sept. 27, 1927 in Louisville to William Sterling Kenneth and Pearl West Detenber. He retired as a production manager with American Standard after 42 years. He enjoyed handicapping the horse races, especially at Churchill Downs, U of L sports and tail gating, and coaching Little League and CYO football. He never missed any of his grandchildren’s games and activities and was adored by them as “Pop.”

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Doris Detenber; children, Mike Detenber and his wife, Susan, Steve Detenber and his wife, Cathy, and Debbie Zangari and her husband, Dean; grandchildren, Michelle Detenber, Derek Detenber and his wife, Kim, Emily Detenber and fiancé, Jim, Brandon Detenber and fiancé, Lindsey, Travis Detenber and his wife, Sarah, and Jill Zangari; siblings, Bob Detenber, and Bill Detenber and his wife, Beverly; sister-in-law, Betty Vessels;

six great- grandchildren,    Breanna, Seth, Chase, Madison, Avery, and Hannah;

one great-great grandchild, Mason; two aunts; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Ken Detenber and brothers, Don Detenber and Terry Detenber.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany.

   A celebration of his life and meal will follow the funeral Mass at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 225 Market St., Jeffersonville.
