Edna Lucille Ross

85; Hardinsburg

Funeral services for Edna Lucille Ross, 85, Hardinsburg, will be at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Alexander Funeral Home,  Irvington, Ky., with burial to follow in Bethel Cemetery, Bewleyville. She died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Heartland Villa Care & Rehab, Lewisport, Ky.

 She was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Irvington to the late Marvin & Lottie Gillingwators Ross. 

She is survived by her three nieces, Janice Ross Gregory, Hawesville, Ky., Jean Ashcraft Walls, Brandenburg, Ky., and Rosalie Ashcraft Tebbets, Arlington, Va.; five great nieces; two great nephews; and 17 great, great nieces and nephews.

Majoring in education, Miss Ross graduated from Western Kentucky State Teachers College in Bowling Green.  She taught a short time at a one room schoolhouse in Webster and at Irvington High School. She then accepted a position in the Charlestown schools. Earning a master’s degree from Peabody University, Nashville, in library science, she became the Charlestown High School librarian.  When she retired after serving 40 years Miss Ross was a generous friend and neighbor and will be sadly missed by many. Her calling in life was to serve others. She could frequently be seen taking people to their doctors or to church in her red PT Cruiser.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Estelle Nottingham and Evelyn Ashcraft; and two brothers, Homer and Russell Ross. 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Expression of sympathy may be made to the Rosetta United Methodist Church in her memory, where she was a longtime active and supportive member.
