Shelby ‘Jim’ Byerley, 76; New Albany

— Funeral services for Shelby “Jim” Byerley, 76, New Albany, will be at noon Saturday, Feb. 1, at Kraft Funeral Service’s Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany, with graveside service to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. He died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany with his family and friends at his side.

He was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Corydon, to the late Shelby and Zettabell  Byerley.

He retired from Paramount Plywood in New Albany after 33 years of employment, and then worked as a custodian for the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation for eight years.

Survivors include his wife Rita Sheckell Byerley; daughters Eva Buckel and husband Ricke, Tenia Reid and husband Dwayne and Betty White (James Taylor); grandsons Stephen Mercer, Donnie Mercer, Timmy Reid and Dwayne Reid II; granddaughters Stephany Mercer, Sarah Buckel, Kristie Reid and Jessica lakin; great-grandchildren Cheyenne Adams, Austin Adams, Terry Shaver, Joey Jones, Titus Reid, Shelby Reid, Xavier Reid, Olivia Shaver, Carley Shaver, Steven Mercer, Stella Mercer, Isabella Elliot, Payton Reid and Jaylynn Crum.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
