Verona Fischer Wolfe, 88; New Albany

— Funeral Mass for Verona Fischer Wolfe, 88, New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany, with private burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. She passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014.

She was the daughter of Anthony Fischer Sr. and Elizabeth Yenowine Fischer. She was a life member of St. Mary’s Church, New Albany, where she served as a member of the Parish Council, Eucharistic minister, a reader and gift bearer. She was also on the Bereavement Committee, Alter Society and Legion of Mary. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s School class of 1939 and valedictorian of New Albany High School’s class of 1943. During World War II, she worked as Administrative Clerk for the Floyd County Ration Board and later as bookkeeper for Peter Klerner Furniture Company. She was a charter member of the LaFemmes 40/8.

Survivors include two sons, William Wolfe and his wife, Carolyn, Elizabeth, and Donald Wolfe and his wife, Theresa, New Albany; one daughter, Patricia Wolfe Naulty and her husband, Terry, Owensboro, Ky.; three grandchildren, Leslie Wolfe Durham and her husband, Brian, Greenville, Jeremy Wolfe and his wife, Becky, Lanesville and Adam Wolfe, New Albany; and one great-grandchild, Derek Harmon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Wolfe; three brothers, Anthony Fisher Jr., Bernard Fischer and Frank Fischer; and one sister, Mary Fischer Scholl.  

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany.

Verona has requested expressions of sympathy be made to St. Mary’s Church, 415 E. Eighth Street, New Albany IN 47150.
