Merle L. Cummins, 69; New Albany

— A memorial service for Merle L. Cummins, 69, New Albany, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany, with burial to take place at a later date at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013.

 He fought a courageous two year battle with stage four lung cancer. He was an active member of the South Hoosier Street Rods, Inc. and a United States Air Force veteran. He was born Dec. 28, 1943 in New Albany to the late Earl and Kathryn J. Bryson Cummins.

 He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Shari A. Jekel Cummins; children, Jeff L. Cummins and his wife Amy; and grandchildren; siblings, Don Cummins and his wife, Pat, and Sue Summers and her husband. Don; and many loving nieces and nephews.

His family would like to thank their family and dear friends who were by their side during the final months of Merle’s life. They also wish to thank the staff at Floyd Memorial’s Cancer Care Center and Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services for the excellent care they provided to Merle.
