79; of Speed

— Funeral services for Elmer Blessinger, 79, of Speed, a native of Jasper, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Garr Funeral Home, Sellersburg, with burial in Silver Creek Cemetery. He died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at his home.

  He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, a Carpenter Superintendent for Coupe Construction in Louisville, and attended St. Paul Catholic Church, Sellersburg. He was a member of the American Legion Post 204, and Knights of Columbus in New Albany and was one of 18 siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Blessinger; daughters, Barbara Diana Gilpin and her husband, Gary, of Louisville, and Jill Swartz and her husband, Delbert, of Speed; sisters, Leona Johnson and her husband, Don, of Texas, Mary Cathrine McMahand, of Conway, Ark., Mildred  Merkel and her husband, Cletus, of Jasper, and Annie Smith and her husband, Herold, of Owensboro, Ky.; two brothers, Urban Blessinger, and his wife, Barbara, of Holland, and Roman Blessinger, of Cheake Village, Ark.; grandchildren, Maggie Craig, Casi Gilpin and Olivia Swartz; and great-grandchildren, Anna, Izzy and Khloe.

 Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
