A funeral Mass for Betty J. Thomas, 88, of New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. She died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
The daughter of the late Clarence and Oda Mae Lowe Johnston, she was born April 24, 1924 in Lomita, Calif. She was a member of the American Legion Bonnie Sloan Unit 28 and VFW Post 1693 Ladies Auxiliary, Past Bonnie Sloan Unit 28 and 8th District Auxiliary President, New Albany Women’s Club, was a staffer at Hoosier Girls State for more than 40 years and active with the Louisville VAMC volunteer services. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany and St. Mary’s Altar Society.
Survivors Include her husband of 67 years, Irvin Thomas Sr.; children, Evelyn Arnold, Barbara Conrad and her husband, Keith, Donald Thomas, Patricia Byerley and her husband, Ronald, Patrick Thomas and his finance, Mary Anne Sheldon, James Thomas and his wife, Connie, John Thomas and his wife, Doreen, and Irvin Thomas Jr. and his wife, Karen; 25 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; and nine great -great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Dawn Marie Anderson and Carmen Elizabeth Masterson.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany. There will be a Auxiliary Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday and a Rosary Service at 6 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
