Homer “Jock” Carpenter

78; of Clarksville

— Funeral services for Homer “Jock” Carpenter, 78, of Clarksville will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Coots’ Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, with burial to follow at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He came to the end of his life’s journey on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Jewish Hospital. 

He retired after 42 years at Public Service Indiana, which is now Duke Energy. He worked as a construction worker and substation maintenance supervisor. He also was a long time member of the American Legion Post 250 in Mitchell, and the F.O.E. 1527 in Jeffersonville. He was a fun-loving family man that enjoyed attending games of the Louisville RiverBats and New Albany Bulldogs’ basketball team and taking “one more” picture. He will be missed by all. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Helen (Bush) Carpenter. He was a loving and dedicated father to eight children: Gary L. Carpenter, of Pennsauken, N.J., Patty (Carpenter) Morrison, of New Albany, Karen Dugan (Jack), of Beach Park, Ill., Brenda Ellis, of Clarksville, John Carpenter, of Clarksville, Linda Duncan-Taylor, of Jeffersonville, Mark Carpenter (Susan), of Orlando, Fla., and Sharon Watkins (Brian), of Sellersburg.  He is survived by brother Tony Carpenter (Carol); sister Carolyn Pritchard (John) of South Boston. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.   

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Carpenter Sr. and Lenore (McClellan) Carpenter; his brothers, Warren C. Carpenter and Wallace F. Carpenter. 

The family would like to give a special show of appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the Rudd-Heart and Lung Cardiovascular ICU.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and after 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
