Funeral services for Elmer Blevins, 61, of Lexington, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Grayson Funeral Home, New Washington, with burial in Lexington Cemetery. He died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2012, at his home he shared with his wife, Cheri Blevins.
He was born on June 1, 1951 to James and Nola Cox Blevins at Black Mountain Hospital in Kenvir, Ky. He graduated from Male High School in 1969 and served in the Army as a nuclear weapons specialist. He retired from the United States Postal Service after serving as Postmaster of New Washington, for 30 years. He was a past member of the Scottsburg Jay C’s, a present member of the Scott County Chamber of Commerce, and a lifelong fan of University of Kentucky basketball. He also spent much of his time in the Scott County High Schools working with students with disabilities.
He is survived by his wife, Cheri Clemons Blevins; his parents, James and Nola Blevins, of Lexington; sons, Michael Blevins and his wife, JoAnn, of Seymour, and Jason Blevins and his wife, Stephanie, of Austin; daughter, Candi May and her husband, John, of New Washington; brother, Larry Blevins and his wife, Marcia, of Scottsburg; sister, Lana Cecil and her husband, Ralph, of Charlestown; grandchildren, Dale Whitehead, Nathan Wheeler, Samantha Blevins, Abby Blevins, Nicholas Blevins, Sydney Stidham, Eli Stidham, Shelby Stidham, and Joshua Blevins; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 19, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
