Mary Catherine Harmon Harritt, 90; Edwardsville

— Funeral services for Mary Catherine Harmon Harritt, 90, Edwardsville, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Tunnel Hill Christian Church, Floyds Knobs, with burial in Edwardsville Cemetery. She died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Bee Hive Homes, Georgetown.

She was born Jan. 30, 1923 in Taswell to the late Iler and Nellie Harmon. She was a licensed beautician, homemaker and co-founder of Harritt Insurance with her late husband, Allen. She was a caring wife, encouraging mother and a devoted member of Tunnel Hill Christian Church. She was a true optimist. She loved life and everyone she came in contact with and was always ready for the next adventure.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Kenny Gerry, her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Mary Ann Harritt; grandchildren, Jon Gerry, Mendy Christensen and her husband, Mike, Chad Gerry, Ben Harritt and his wife, Lauran, and Hunter Harritt; great-grandchildren, Nicole Dietrich and her husband, Matt, Jonathon Gerry, Stephen Gerry, Avery Christensen and Kipton Harritt; and great-great-grandchildren, Gabe and Gemma Dietrich.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Allen H. Harritt, her brothers, Charles, Robert and her twin, William; and sisters, Thelma Crews, Elnora Longest and Leone Peyton.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany, and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church.

The family wants to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Bee Hive Homes for their compassionate and professional care.
