Virginia James Albro

78; Jeffersonville

Funeral services for Virginia James Albro, 78, Jeffersonville, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Oak Park Baptist Church, Jeffersonville, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville. She died the morning of Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

She was born on July 30, 1935 in Louisville, to Thomas and Daphna Spencer James. She was their only daughter and the youngest of four siblings. She married Leslie Albro on June 9, 1956 and was a supportive wife and devoted mother. She was a faithful member of Oak Park Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Virginia spent countless hours teaching Bible and Sunday School classes, welcoming visitors, singing in the choir, and helping out wherever needed.

Virginia and Les Albro contributed generously to many organizations in Jeffersonville and the Greater Southern Indiana region. Most recently, the Albros were recipients of the Red Cross Bales Humanitarian Award in August 2009. Their contributions to the Highland Lakes Baptist Camp were acknowledged by the camp’s Welcome Center Facility that was named in their honor and which opened in 2010.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Les Albro; daughters, Kelly Albro Lasley and her husband, Marty, Soddy Daisy, Tenn. and Lori Albro Lewis and her husband, David; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Lewis and Noah and Jonah Lasley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Dan, Jimmy, and Bobby James.

Visitation will be from 12 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church.

Scott Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank their Oak Park Baptist Church family, the staff at Riverbend, family friend, Dorothy Willett and the Bales Motors employees for all their love and support.
