John Ed “Honest John” Smith Jr., 70; of Palmyra

— A Funeral Mass for John Ed “Honest John” Smith Jr., 70, of Palmyra, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bradford, with burial in the church cemetery. He died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at his home.

John died sober and was a 29-plus year member of AA. He attended U of L, was a member of Phi Kappa Tau, St. Michael’s Catholic Church and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a retired car salesman, enjoyed art and music and never met a stranger. He also helped his father in his real estate and auction business for many years and truly enjoyed selling.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Wingler Smith; sisters-in-law, Martha Jane Winger, of Palmyra, Mary Ann O’Brien, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Carolyn Wingler, of Palmyra; nieces, Debbie Parsons and her husband, David, of Corydon, and Teresa Wingler, of Chandler, Ariz.; a nephew, Asa Wingler, of Palmyra; great-nieces, Hailee Parsons and Jaden Wingler and a great-nephew, Kyle Parsons.

Visitation at the church will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. 

The family wishes to thank Hosparus for their loving and kind care these past several weeks.

A memorial service will be held in his hometown of Burkesville, Ky., at a later date.
