Emily “Meme” Barnett, 85; of Jeffersonville


A memorial service for Emily “Meme” Barnett, 85, of Jeffersonville, will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, at Legacy Funeral Center in Jeffersonville.  She died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville.

She was born on April 29, 1927, to the Late Philias and Rose Casey in Embden, Maine. Emily was a Navy veteran (WAVES), played on the Naval softball team and worked as a photographer for President Truman. She previously worked at Clark Memorial Hospital, was an avid bowler and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Meme was most proud of the five children she raised while her late husband was serving in the United States Navy and will be greatly missed by them all.

Survivors include her five children, Dale Barnett Jr. and his wife Robin, of Sellersburg, Debbie Koetter and her husband Regis, of Floyds Knobs, Bill Barnett and his wife Karen, of Greenville, April Edmondson and her husband David, of New Washington and Matt Barnett, of New Albany; four siblings, Norris, Otis, Leah and Hazel; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Barnett Sr.; and four siblings, Dora, Ray, Lodie and Norma.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. 

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
