Joseph R. Atkins, 80; of New Albany

Funeral services for Joseph R. Atkins, 80, of New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Friday, May 10, 2013. 

 He enjoyed fishing and was proud of his service in the United States Army.  He was born June 27, 1932, in Floyds Knobs, to Franklin and Olevia Becht Atkins. 

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Delcie “Dot” Monhollen Atkins; siblings, Franklin Atkins and his wife, Shirley, Paul Atkins and his wife, Donna, Martha Missi and her husband, Paul, John Atkins and his wife, Angie, and Janet Schuler and her husband, Allen; grandsons, Calvin and Jonathan Gore; and great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Parker, and Cecilia Gore. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Stumler (Lester), and stepdaughter, Joyce Gore.  

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
