George M. ‘Apples’ Gehring, 96; of Clarksville

— Funeral Mass for George M. “Apples” Gehring will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany with cremation to follow. He died Thursday, April 4, 2013 in Clarksville.

He was born on March 20, 1917, to the late Charles and Georgia Anastasia (Hoffman) Gehring. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany. He spent 72 years married to the love of his life, “Bee” Gehring, until her death July 20, 2012. He was an avid golfer and member of the Valley View Golf Course and even had a hole-in-one three different times. After retiring from E.M. Cummings Veneers, he enjoyed working at the Sellersburg Liquor Store for 20 years until the age of 92.

Apples will be missed by his children Judy Criner and Martin Gehring and wife Linda; sister, Dorothy Daugherty; grandchildren, Jena Kemmer and husband Kerry, Derek Criner, Heidi Runge and husband Geoff, Matthew Gehring, and Casey Trump and husband Jesse; and seven great grandchildren. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bernard Gehring; and sisters Catherine Kerstiens, Martha Duggan and Francis Gehring.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Newcomer Funeral Home in New Albany
