Jesse ‘Jesus’ Garcia Jr.

80; Sellersburg

— A memorial service for Jesse ‘Jesus’ Garcia Jr. 80, Sellersburg, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Garr Funeral Home, Sellersburg. He died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Baptist Hospital East, Louisville.

  He was born on Feb. 13, 1934 in Malakoff, Texas. He worked at Clark Memorial Hospital as Director of Diagnostic Imaging for 40 years, taught biology at Shawnee High School in the early 1960’s, and served his country in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Knox-Ireland Army Hospital. He was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church and the Elks Club. He attended University of Texas at Austin and later graduated from the University of Louisville, Bellermine College and Indiana University Southeast.

Survivors include his wife, Orthelia “Tootsie” Garcia; son, Paul Garcia and his wife, Margi; daughter, Alesia Garcia Alm and her husband, Dennis; brothers, Frank, Eddie and Paul Garcia; and grandchildren, Will Garcia, Jennifer Alm and Benjamin Alm.

  He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Garcia Sr., mother, Maneula Garcia, and brothers, Rudy, Jimmy and Ben Garcia.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
