Richard A. Spalding Sr.

63; of New Albany

—  Funeral services for Richard A. Spalding Sr., 63, of New Albany, will be at noon today, Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany, with burial and military honors at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

 He was born in New Albany, on March 20, 1949, to James W. and Mary M. Spalding. He was an Army Veteran serving his country in the Vietnam War and later spent more than 20 years in the National Guard. He retired from Jorgensen Sales in Louisville, and was a member of Parkway Southern Baptist Church and the VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693.

 Survivors include his wife, Linda Gognat Spalding; children, Richard A. Spalding Jr., Lena Jordan and her husband, Virgil, Carrie Sanders  and her husband, Brian, and Jeffrey Hodgson; mother, Mary M. Spalding; brothers, Jimmy Spalding, Carl Spalding and his wife, Linda, Johnny Spalding and his wife, Joyce, and Davey Spalding and his wife, Carol; grandchildren,    Mary Ann, Krisden, Virgil, Samuel, Luke, Amanda, Allison, Matthew, Michael, and Amber; and great-grandchildren: Dekotah, and Madyline.

He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Spalding, and the mother of his children and wife of 36 years, Connie Friedley.

Visitation will be after 9 a.m. today, at the funeral home.
