Melvin G. Freiberger Jr., 53; New Albany

— Funeral services for Melvin G. Freiberger Jr., 53, New Albany, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, Floyds Knobs, with burial in the church cemetery. He died Tuesday Feb. 18, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was a former New Albany fireman and also worked for the Valley Crest Company. He was born May 31, 1960 in New Albany to Mel G. Freiberger Sr. and Sue Bailey and grew up in Floyds Knobs. He loved his wife, children, grandchild and family, and also loved hunting, fishing, the outdoors and especially riding his Harley Davidson. He was a member of the Cardinal Ritter Council Knights of Columbus, Floyd County Token Club and St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Yvette L. Elswick Freiberger; children, Brandon Freiberger and wife, Julia, Tyler Freiberger and wife, Ashley, Charlotte Elswick, Dennis Andres and wife, Alana, and Samuel Andres; grandchild, Dennis Andres III; mother, Betty Lou Freiberger; brothers, Jim Freiberger and wife, Cheryl, and Gregg Freiberger and wife, Jennifer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mel G. Freiberger Sr. and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany, with a Rosary service at 3 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
