Edward J. “Papaw” Schmidt, 70; Sellersburg

A memorial services for Edward J. “Papaw” Schmidt, 70 , Sellersburg, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany. He died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.

  He was born Aug. 12, 1943 in New Albany, to his late parents, Leo Schmidt, Sr. and Elinor C. Schmidt Hammersmith.  He served in the U.S. Army and retired from CSX Railroad after some 38 years employment. He was a member St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Sellersburg.  He was known as the sporting event Papaw and dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

 Survivors include his wife of 47 years, the former Betty J. Prince; son, Bryan Schmidt and his wife, Karen, Floyds Knobs; daughter, Robin Dornbush and her husband, Ryan, Lanesville; brothers, Leo Schmidt Jr.  and his wife, Becky, Kenny Schmidt and his wife, Nancy, and Ronnie Schmidt and his wife, Sharon; sister, Loretta Bartley and her husband, Larry; and grandchildren, Sierra, Sawyer, Sophie and Chloe.

Memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may go to St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sellersburg.
