Myrtle Sanders Tomes, 91; Georgetown


— Funeral services for Myrtle Sanders Tomes, 91, Georgetown, were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home, Georgetown, with interment in Wolfe Cemetery, Georgetown. She passed into the arms of Christ on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at her home in the presence of her loving family.

She was born Oct. 5, 1922 the daughter of Pat and Laura Mae Priddy Sanders. She was born in Edmonson County, Ky. on the land that is present day Mammoth Cave National Park. She was Baptized in Rhoda Creek and a member of Otter Gap Baptist Church in Edmonson County.

She was a full time home maker and mother to 12 children and is survived by Edward LeRoy Tomes and his wife, Nancy, Corydon, James Elzie Tomes Sr. and his wife, Phyllis, Georgetown, Larry Joe Tomes and his wife, Linda, Louisville, Judith Elaine Taylor and her husband, Charlie, Corydon, Roger Dale Tomes and his wife, Janice, Indianapolis, Glenna Darlene Toliver, Madison, Sherry Ann Richmond and her husband, Ronnie, Dallas, Texas, Ronald Dean Tomes and his wife,  Bonita, Clarksville, Cathy Sue Tomes, Georgetown, and Laura Regina Tomes, Georgetown; daughter-in-law, Sallie Jo Tomes (Jessie), Corydon; 35 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; six great- great grandchildren; sisters, Lela Abney and her husband, Carl, Lafayette, Pearl Hatfield, Denver, Colo., and Thelma Ruth Myers and her husband, Eddie, Colorado Springs, Colo,; and numerous nieces and nephews.

All of whom deeply mourn her loss, but our loss is the gain of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven.

 She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dewey Tomes; sons, Jessie Earl Tomes Sr. and Billy Ray Tomes; three grandchildren; one great- grandchild; and son-in-law, Steve Toliver.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
