A memorial service for Imogene White, 83, Otisco, formerly of Columbus, will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 4205 Jonathan Moore Pike, Columbus. Private inurnment will be at Unionville Cemetery in Monroe County. She died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, Sellersburg.
Born in Monroe County May 24, 1930, she was the daughter of Ralph H. and Beulah M. Chitwood Durnal. She had held many jobs in her lifetime including being a presser at Art's Cleaners, a supervisor at Developmental Services Inc., and working for Irwin Management in Columbus and Swifty Farms in Seymour. Having a passion for children, she was a longtime foster parent and a Nana to many. She was a former member of the 25th Street Church of Christ and for the last seven years she has been a faithful member of the Memphis Church of Christ. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, sewing, cooking, playing with children and animals and riding motorcycles.
Survivors include her children, Dione Virjean White, Otisco, Don Eugene White, Greenwood, and Douglas Edward White and his wife, Ollie, Austin; grandchildren, Dakota Lee Cochenour, Jenny Lynn May, and Jesse James Cochenour and his wife, Brandy; great-grandchildren, Lillian Rose and Aaron Casey Cochenour; a sister, Connie Lou Hobbs and her husband, Mike, Columbus; four nephews; three nieces; two great-nephews; 11 great-nieces; four great-great nephews; and four great-great nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Oren Lee Durnal; a sister, Mary Catherine Durnal; and a nephew, Steven Lee Durnal.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Riley Hospital for Children or Kosair Children's Hospital.
