Funeral services for Howell M. Kelly Sr., 66, of Jeffersonville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Jeffersonville, with burial in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. He died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Madison, graduated from Shaw Memorial High School and then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He then graduated from the University of Kentucky where he met Dorothy. He co-owned Kelly Brothers Tire Center in Portland, before opening Fayette County Tire in Connersville. He retired after 17 years from Visteon in Connersville, where he was a Quality Lab Supervisor. All his life he was an avid golfer and gardener and enjoyed watching Notre Dame Football.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kelly; six children, Howell M. Kelly Jr. and his wife, Janice, Bryan Kelly and his wife, Yuko, Adam Kelly and his wife, Suzanne, Veronica Prechtel and her husband, Mike, Richard Kelly and Mary Kelly-Herman and her husband, Chris; four siblings, Richard Kelly and his wife, Barbara, Georgellen Kelly, Benjamin Kelly and his wife, Nancy, and Jane Michelle Kelly; sister-in-law, Katie Gray; 12 grandchildren, Leo, Thomas, Estelle and Louis Prechtel, Kai, Hanna and Sena Kelly, Adam, Grace and Frances Kelly, and Ian and Maddie Herman; and man’s best friend, D.D. Blanche.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Kelly and Jane “McCawley” Kelly; brother, Spalding Kelly; and daughter, Colleen Kelly.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the church.
Scott Funeral Home’s North Chapel, Jeffersonville, is in charge of arrangements.
