Donald Joseph Missi, 80; Floyds Knobs

— A funeral Mass for Donald Joseph Missi, 80, Floyds Knobs, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at St. Mary of the Knobs Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. He died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany, with his family by his side.

He was born Jan. 17, 1933, in New Albany to the late Peter L. and Ida Bell C. Ackerman Missi. He grew up in Starlight, as one of seven children. On May 2, 1953, he married Mary Lucille Becht, his wife of 60 years.

He worked for Starlight Cabinet for many years, and retired from Sears after 33 years. For five years he worked as a floral deliverer for the Flower Shoppe, New Albany, a job he truly loved. He has been a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Church for 60 years.  He was one of the original organizers of the Floyds Knobs Community Club and the Mount St. Francis Picnic. He loved his family dearly and was a man well liked by all.

Along with his wife, Lucille, he is survived by his children, Richar, Sr. and his wife, Glenda, Deborah Naville and her husband, Jerry, Donald and his wife, Rhoda, Timothy and his wife, Connie, Laura Engle and her husband, Don, Patrick and his wife, Debbie, and Lisa Huber  and her husband, Mark; 28 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Maurice Engle, Martha Engle and her husband, Jake and Mary L. Becht and her husband, Richard; brother, Bill Rothrock and his wife, Linda; sisters-in-law, Barbara Missi, Sandy Pinnick and her husband, Ralph, Phyllis Smallwood and Linda Steinbrenner.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin Missi and Robert Missi; sister, Mae Kaelin; and his grandson, Brain Missi.

Visitation will be from 12 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany.
