Funeral services for James Eckert, 68, of Kalamazoo, Mich., will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Langeland Family Funeral Home, Westside Chapel, Kalamazoo, Mich., with private burial in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, at a later date. He died Monday, May 13, 2013 in Kalamazoo.
He was born May 31, 1944, in Speed, the son of Charles and Mary Littleton Eckert. During the Vietnam War, he served in Germany with the U.S. Army. He is survived by three children, Robert Fisher and his wife, Gail, of Plymouth, Cheryl Hopkins and her husband, Bruce, of Grayslake, Ill., and Christina Shepard and her husband, Scott, of Portage; seven grandchildren, Jena Lovelace, Michael Fisher, Kyle McKim, Zachary Hopkins, Sara Hopkins, Madison Shepard and Mason Shepard; great-grandchildren, Nikolas Fisher, Austin Fisher, Miranda Cole, Westin Outlaw Fisher, and Braedyn Marshall Lovelace; a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Pat Eckert, of Sellersburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois Clouse Eckert on Jan. 30, 2011; and two brothers, David and Bobby Eckert.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home
