Joseph Lee Benge

87; Charlestown

Funeral services for Joseph Lee Benge, 87, Charlestown, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany, with burial and military honors to follow at Lebanon National Cemetery. He died Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

 He retired from the Clark County School Corporation and was a United States Army veteran that proudly served his country during World War II. He enjoyed fishing as well as traveling with his companion, Jewell. He was born on April 29, 1926 in Letcher County, Ky., to the late Benjamin and Dora Collins Benge.

  He is survived by his children, Rick Benge and his wife, Libby, Jack Benge and his wife, Jackie, Valerie Benge, Ben Holbrook, and Robert Benge; sister, Pat Morgan; grandchildren, Joshua, Mandy, Sarah, Emmy, Brian, Caleb, Aaron, Jack, and Stephanie; and four great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Irene H. Hall Benge, and siblings, Jack Benge, Roy Benge, and Rosella Adams. 

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
