Helen C. VanMeter, 78; Charlestown

Funeral services for Helen C. VanMeter, 78, Charlestown, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Adams Funeral Home & Crematory, Henryville, with burial in Bunker Hill Cemetery, Henryville. She died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Clark Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 28, 1935 in Scottsburg, she was the daughter of Mary Beckett and George Brishaber. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and working puzzles. Helen worked at Phillip Morris in Louisville.

Survivors include two children, a daughter, Karissa D. VanMeter, Charlestown; a son, James A. VanMeter, Sellersburg; three grandchildren, Christopher D. Zollman, Scottsburg, Marissa D. Zollman, Paoli, and Haley R. VanMeter, Hollywood, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Julia T. Polley, Seymour, Garrett L. Zollman, Scottsburg, Heavenly L. Zollman, New Albany, and Dakota R. Zollman, Mikayla L. Doan, Allison P. Doan, all three of Paoli; and one sister, Catherine Rose, Underwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis C. VanMeter, two brothers, James A. Brishaber and Calvin Brishaber, and a brother-in-law, Meral Rose.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and after 10 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
