Homer “Jack” Carpenter, 78; of Clarksville

Funeral services for Homer “Jack” Carpenter will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at E.M. Coots’ Sons Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, with burial to follow at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. Jack came to the end of his life’s journey on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Jewish Hospital. 

He retired after 42 years at Public Service Indiana, which is now Duke Energy. He worked as a construction worker and substation maintenance supervisor. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion Post 250 in Mitchell and the FOE 1527 in Jeffersonville. He was a fun-loving family man that enjoyed attending games of the Louisville RiverBats and New Albany Bulldogs Basketball and taking “one more” picture. He will be missed by all. 

His is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Helen (Bush) Carpenter. He was a loving and dedicated father to eight children, Gary L. Carpenter of Pennsauken, N.J., Patty (Carpenter) Morrison of New Albany, Karen Dugan and her husband, Jack, of Beach Park, Ill., Brenda Ellis of Clarksville, John Carpenter of Clarksville, Linda Taylor and her husband, Duncan, of Jeffersonville, Mark Carpenter and his wife, Susan, of Orlando, Fla., and Sharon Watkins and her husband, Brian, of Sellersburg. He is also survived by a brother, Tony Carpenter and his wife, Carol; a sister, Carolyn Pritchard and her husband, John; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Carpenter Sr. and Lenore (McClellan) Carpenter; and brothers Warren C. Carpenter and Wallace F. Carpenter. 

The family would like to give a special show of appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the Rudd-Heart and Lung Cardiovascular ICU. 

Visitation will be Sunday, July 7, from 2 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at Coots’ Sons Funeral Home.
