Skyler Andrew ‘Pooter’ Shelton

17; Clarksville

A celebration of life service for Skyler Andrew “Pooter” Shelton, 17, Clarksville, formerly of Irvine, Ky., will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Southeast Christian Church-Indiana Campus, Jeffersonville. He lost his battle with his disease on Wednesday, March 2, 2014.

He was a fighter until the end and was supported by his loving family and friends who were with him until Jesus walked him home. Diagnosed at age 5 with Idiopathic Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis and later with Renal disease which was Mesangial Proliferative Glomerulosclerosis, Skyler beat the odds and lived a life without regrets.

He was born on Aug. 17, 1996 in Richmond to Stephen Shelton and Queena Bowman Gentry. He lived in Irvine, Ky. attending West Irvine and Estill Springs Elementary Schools and Estill County Middle School.  In 2009, he moved with his mom to Clarksville. Skyler had many loves in his life, but the greatest was racing. He raced the #20 Orange and Blue car at the Sportsdrome Speedway in Jeffersonville and had won three races there. There he had many fans and friends who followed his racing as well as competed against him. He raced with a tough competitiveness, just as Dale Earnhardt, his NASCAR driver.  Skyler also was a huge U.K. fan and rooted them all of the way to the final four. Now he can watch them win the National Championship from the best seat in the house. He also was a loyal supporter of the Cincinnati Bengals. He will be remembered for his selfless love for others and his infectious love of life. He was someone who didn’t allow the pains and setbacks of illness to slow him down. He held a positive attitude throughout and left our presence to a new life free of disease. He lived by his motto, “Sky’s the Limit.”

His survivors include his mom, Quenna; his dad, Stephen; grandparents, Zelma Jean Morris and Fred Hafley; uncles, Billy Bowman Jr. and his wife, Jammie, John Bowman and Theodore Shelton and his wife, Mary; aunts, Delia Henry and her husband, Jeff, Lara Hafley and Sheryl Lurding; sisters, Christy Alvey and her husband, Owen, Evangeline Faith Banks, Elizabeth Banks Dixon and her husband, John, Cheyenne Gentry, Destiny Gentry, Hope Gentry, Brdigett Gentry and Kaidence Heavyn Lee; brother Landon Pierce Gentry; nieces, Breanna Alvey, and Raelyn Palmer Neal, and his namesake, Kyra Danielle Sky Dixon; nephews, Ryan Thomas Henry and Benson Keith Kelly. Skyler was also survived by several other aunts, uncles, cousins and extended Sportsdrome racing family.

A special shout out with heartfelt gratitude and love to the following that stayed in the home and provided for all needs necessary: Lisa Lanham and family, Paul Taylor, Trudy Orbinson, Pat and Christy Polston, Lisa Cranmer-Seay, Aaron Seay, Ryan Seay, Chris Broy, Anthony Turner, Stephanie and Chris McCoy, Deborah Gentry, Sabrina Mattingly, Danielle Thacker, Sean Madden and Joann Leet as well as all other extended family and friends.
